Montreuil: an emergency accommodation centre in an office building
Three months after the opening of Cités Caritas’ emergency accommodation centre, Plateau Urbain, Cités Caritas and Axe Immobilier invited the Mayor of Montreuil, Patrice Bessac, several municipal representatives, as well as families housed in the centre, on April 6,2023, to inaugurate this mixed and supportive solidary space.
The emergency accommodation centre, managed by Plateau Urbain and supported by the City of Montreuil and the Regional and inter-departmental administration for the accommodation and housing (DRIHL) already hosts 50 people in a situation of social emergency. The premises, which will welcome an office complex are made available by Axe Immobilier until August.
Bedrooms, shared kitchens, workshop for children… the new emergency accommodation centre OPALE – EAST VILLAGE located on rue Franklin in Montreuil, has been housing since January 29 adults and 21 kids in a vulnerable situation. Among them are isolated women, single-parent families, as well as couples with or without children. “The purpose of this place is not only to accommodate these people but also to facilitate their long-term social reintegration” summarizes Alice Gendre, head of OPALE.
“We do not want to leave an unoccupied building and we are glad to contribute to democratizing these mixed places. Because a temporary occupation is more useful and creative than a society of guards” said Cédric de Lestrange, managing director of Axe Immobilier.
